Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. She founded Feminist Frequency which is a website with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit educational site that explores the representation of women in pop cultural narratives is founded and is directed by Sarkeesian. As well as working to expose the issues surrounding the targeted and sexist attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is determined to break down the stigmas and stereotypes prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. In addition to being a popular public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. In 2009, the ebullient young lady was harassed by the Internet for starting a web that focused on the gender of videogames. The harassment didn't discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position in her role as a feminist journalist. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades for her numerous prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization which studies the portrayals of women in popular cultural stories.
