JoyceDeWitt began her stage career at the age of 13. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. The director suggested that she enroll in UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. There she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in addition to the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed that she never met Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most well-known for her character Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 season of sitcom Three's Company, a job she obtained after being cast in the show's second pilot. DeWitt also played Janet in an episode in 1979 of the spinoff series , The Ropers. DeWitt made her acting debut in a scene in 1984 of Three's Company. Acting was her first return to the stage in the month of June in 1991 when she played a part in an episode of the Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She also appeared in the show Spring Fling which was a 1995 TV comedy. A character based on her voice, which was voiced by another actress, was featured in the 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and also made a brief appearance on Living Single's final episode. Her television shows from the 2000s include Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as well as Call of the Wild.
